I'd rather be behind the drum set than just standing there playing one string on the bass guitar, that's for sure! But as a guitarist I'm happy, it doesn't realy bother me although it is very fun, guitar is just fun because of it's level of challenge. You try to play "Sultans of Swing" by Dire Straits and tell me what you think about guitar.
But the drummer really sets the beat (literally!) for the band, I mean the timing is usually all the same for most of an album, and as Steve Miller said on 8/17 at the Ives Center in Danbury CT: "This guy has been the heartbeat of this band for 30 years now; when he goes we all go."
If you want the most fun on the drums try playing Bad Religion's 1989 album "No Control". It's like one massive drum solo with a post-70's punk theme.

Drum lines in high school, college, or drummers in musical groups most all have fun because they appeal to the rest of us wannabe's with their primitive rythyms. It takes a different kind of talent and intelligence to be a drummer. and you might be able to learn the mechanics, but if you ain't got the heart, all you are is a technical musician.

Well, depends. If you play a fast, full of power song it sure is the best, even better if you have the time to throw in some drum solos too.In ballads however, though a challenge too, it is kinda boring. I play the drums in a band and it is really vivifying!

I know that drummer's can be very sore by the end of the gig.

i think, if we play some musics, it will have fun. everything. if you played a drum, you're not must be can read partiteur. but if you played like piano, guitar, something like that, you'll be have fun and more clever. hehee.

I play drums, guitar, and bass and by far, drums if the best, funnest instrument to play. guitar gets boring
