I suffered from post partum depression/depression/anxiety like two years ago, and I am completely off of any depression pill now.It took me a lot of volunteering for myself to realize what the pshyciatrist had me on.It was really bad, to the point that after having my second son, I had to be in a mental hospital for like a week or two.I am going to be 23 yrs old.I have recently been feeling like I can't enjoy many things that I do again,I feel like I am in bad moods a lot, and I have also been feeling like something inside of me that scares me will not let me live happily. My intentions are not to seek a pshycatrist again because I do not want that, however, I have thought about mentioning it to my regular doctor, and tell him that I just do not want to start any depression pills at all, I really just want to see if he thinks it is my hormones or something, can that be? Should I go see the doctor, or should I just let it pass?

For your children's sake...talk to your doctor about it. I struggled with depression for about 10 years. I remember talking to psychiatrists and being put on horrible medication that made me feel like a zombie. I vowed to NEVER go on medication.

But...then, after going through a horrible relationship and being left alone to raise my son, I realized I'd have to do something to stay strong. If I fell apart, who'd take care of my son?? So, I went to my regular doctor...and discussed everything with her.

She suggested zoloft...which made me cringe, but I gave it a shot. I've been on it for over a year now--and I honestly feel it saved my life. Every day, I have so much to deal with...so much stress....I wouldn't be able to take care of my son or myself if I wasn't on my medication.

It took me about 6 months to before I felt "100%"..had to adjust the dosage. But I have no regrets. I'm not suggesting you take medication...it might not be for you. There are so many kinds out there...maybe you're doctor can help you find the right one for you. If not, your doctor might have alternative methods that would work too.

Whatever you decide, just don't wait. I'm 27 years old...and I wasted 10 years of my life waiting for it "to pass". You'll get through this...and be stronger for it.

Good luck to you sweetie...and if you need to talk, feel free to IM me or email me.

Today all forms of depression are becoming recognized as a more serious and treatable problem than was previously believed. Depression is commonly a form of illness related to inadequate levels of Seratonin in ones system. This can be diagnosed and successfully treated with prescription anti-depressant drugs. There are also various herbal remedies such as St. John’s wort, which are believed to work as anti-depressants. These can be purchased over the counter. Consult with a physician, psychiatrist, or herbal specialist if you wish to consider either prescription or herbal anti-depressants. If you are breastfeeding, make sure the remedy is safe for the baby. (Just because something is an herb does not necessarily mean it is harmless.)

Yes you need to see your doctor, and you need to do it soon.Of course it could just be hormones, but it could be more.In any case, you need to do it.Maybe you need to be on something for the depression and maybe not.But wouldn't you rather know now?Maybe the woman in Texas that drowned her 5 babies didn't think she needed anything either.I'm not saying you would ever do anything like that.I don't know you or your situation.Just please talk to someone and please do it soon...It's better to be safe then sorry,I'm not trying to judge you or insuate anything,Just trying to help.
