Surely it will open the flood gates for every crack pot terrorist to enter the EU, and what's more they will all get the new biometric passport to go with it. Surely there should be a EU wide referendum on the subject, but what do you think?

I think not only Turkey but Romania and Bulgaira shouldn't be allow as well.EU has lowered it standards too much.

Just dont ask the Turks about the Human Rights record, they get very defensive over that!

Turkey has just a tiny piece of land in Europe, why should it be a EU member? If it joins it ought to be totally in line with everything the EU decides on.

In order to be let into EU a country must comply with some criteria,that Turkey does not comply...So just because we say that is good to let a country join the EU does not mean they have to accept it and just let them in...
Maybe when turkey will solve its internal problems it will be considered as a good candidate for EU...

Turkey has questionable human rights and civil rights problems. For a Muslim nation its pretty advanced, but it's still backward in many ways. To get into the EU, Turkey has to become more democratic and its citizens must be allowed more civil liberties and freedoms.

turkey suprisingly has been a great deal of help through this iraq thing.
