Specifically football. Has the media become to uncreative that we are reduced to calling guys by their initials like T.O. and L.T.? Isn't LT already taken (Lawrence Taylor)? I also hate it when they take the first letter of the first name and the first 3 letters of the last name (A-ROD or T-MAC come to mind). Thoughts?

While I agree with you whole heartedly, there is one player that needs to have his nickname be the first letter of his first name and the first syllable from his last name.

Come on everybody!!!! Start this one up...Seattle Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez.

Wouldnt it be great for everyone to refer to him as F-Her?

I blame it on Chris Berman. He started nicknaming people in the early 90s on ESPN Primetime. Then it became all the rage to nickname players. Players started nicknaming themselves.

Then ESPN became huge, and the anchors started trying to outdo each other to become more famous than the other anchors. They started coming up with nicknames and catch phrases. Basically, I think ESPN anchors are more concerned about BEING the news than REPORTING the news.

It's just like anything else. It was a fad that became a trend. And now the trend is now out of control.

Cadillac Williams? Javon "I need a" Walker? Big Papi?

The only reason they resort to initials is because that's what the players want. Hey, Chad Johnson even referred to himself as 85 in that commercial. (his number)
