Depending on how bankable an author is, that person can make anywhere between 15-25% royalties per book. And then there are the movie deals which are negotiated in their own way. There's also merchandising rights, as in tee shirts, back packs, lunch boxes, just about anything where you might see the Harry Potter name. Again, for a specific time period, the author's cut in these side deals is up for grabs to the highest bidder.

Authors generally don't make much off a single book--usually around 10-20%. Here you're just looking at massive amounts (plus movie rights, etc).

It increases exponentially with every new book and new movie because she's constantly adding new fans who were too young in the beginning to read her books, but are now middle school age.

I have no idea but when you consider all the merchandising, movies etc it must be considerable.
Probably the only reason she wrote the dastardly things.
