Find out the Brand and model of your printer. If it is not obvious on the front/back panel, check underneath for any emboss/stickers.
Then go to the company's website and download the drivers from there. All major brands have their drivers available from their website these days.
You should look for links typically called "Support", "Downloads", "Drivers".
See how you go. Add to your post if you require more details.

You can try to let windows select a driver with the plug and play, but this is chancy on getting it going. when the PC detects the printer choose to have it go through the Internet to find a driver for it or go to your printer's manufacturers website and download the appropriate drivers to a saved file on your PC and then open it and install.

Connect your printer to your computer and hopefully (WINDOWS XP I assume) your computer can detect and install. If that fails, go to the website for your printer, and the drvier (the software that is able to see what printer is connected to you computer) can be downloaded for free.
By the way, I never use the CD that comes with printer, too much bloat ware!!

Windows has some native drivers already in it. Do you have XP? then it's Plug and Pray (Oops Play.....lol). You may already have the driver on your computer. Otherwise, go on the internet to the website of the printer mfr. and look for drivers there. You may be able to download drivers.
If you are in college there should be a computer tech. department they may be able to help you.
