There isn't just one thing that comes to my mind. Japan is way to complicted to have just a "first thing" come to my mind. It is more a portrait that paints a thousand words.

I know for sure this is not going to get me 10 points but please don't feel offended. I'm frankly answering your question.
In my readings about homosexuality (eew!) I came across a stunning historical fact that almost no one knows about.
"In pre-modern Japan homo pedophilia was universal..."
It's true. It exceeded being socially acceptable to becoming the norm where the child/adolescent novice Samurai plays the 'passive' part and the older warrior plays the 'active' part.
I was like "OMG!! Look at how they gave us all that bullsh*t about superhuman ability and superhuman devotion and all the things that spring to mind when the word 'Samurai' is mentioned!!"

they r ruthless and inhuman.they tortured and killed my grandfathers cousin and brother.even raped some distant grandma's cousin's!its a good thing that my grandfather was spared before by the then pregnant grandmom.if not i wouldnt be here and my mom is the youngest and havent been born at that time..its funny though that my husband is half japanese and everytime i think of my grandma and grandpa,i know they can never forgive me coz i married a half japanese :(
