i just wonder why the british dont like the french?

that's rather a sweeping statement....I have no feelings for them either way, I take people on their personality and character not by where they hail from!!!

It's the English and more particularly the English tabloid media that don't like the French. The Scots and the French get on well as we formed an alliance, that lasted over 100 years,against the English.
During the Irish troubles the French were also their allies and many Irishmen not only fought in the French army but gained high rank.

They have a long history of fighting over border disputes but I doubt if all British dislike all French.

French people are cool, and I'm English. Unlike us who won't say anything and later complain about it, when they don't like something they speak there mind. They don't give a sh!t what we think and that kind of arrogance p's the English off. I have a lot of dealing with the french and I have to say that over the years I have gained a health respect for our neighbours.

The ENGLISH, my dear, not he British.
And "the English"(as far as you can tell by the English press) don't like any foreigners at all, at all.
Because the French have the reputation to be everything the average English person is afraid not to be: sophisticated, fashionable, sexy, well-liked abroad... It's a myth, of course, but that hasn't ever stopped anybody fromhating their neighbours.

I love the French and France - like all countries we have citizens on a spectrum some lovely, some less so

we trade together we develop high tech together lots of Brits have made FRANCE their home it all came around through DeGAULLE being so arrogant and ungrateful for the support and shelter we gave him during WW2 and when in power blocking us getting in Common Market and Non Non to everything that we would have wished Oue generally we like the French people not the ministers like your present president Jaques Chirac
