Assuming that you are in the UK and don't travel on minor european roads or in the US, then:
Tom Tom 510.
You can always upgrade the maps anyway.

the respond ultimately relies upon on what you will use it for. some have useful factors you need to have that yet another won't. My very own opinion even however is that the Garmin is greater person friendly than the Tom Tom. i replaced into rather up on geting a Tom Tom and then whilst i began utilising it i got here across that it wasn't very powerful because of the fact it did no longer tell me the place the area replaced into on the left hand ingredient or precise hand fringe of the line. they might have fixed it because I had it however the Garmin has been known super for me.

Tom Tom IS a brand name navigation system...
Some cell phones & Google & GPS device manufacturers are all coming out with navigation systems as good and cheaper than Tom Tom...

Tom Tom One. Large display screen, very easy to use.
Try looking at the reviews on sites like: http://www.satellitenavigation.org.uk/

Get a map for £2.99 and spent five minutes planning your route beforehand - why waste money on an overpriced consumerist gadget that gives you something to distract you whilst you're driving and (as happened when Jeremy Clarkson and co tested them on Top Gear) tries to send you the wrong way down a one-way street that's barely wide enough for a bicycle!
If you get really lost there's always the maps you can get on your WAP phone...

I think that they are a little pricey at the moment. Can't you wait a few months.
