Since I don't know what you've already written, I can't give you another thousand words to add to it, but I can tell you in a nut shell what this means.

IQ stands for Intelligence Quotient. As you've probably learned in math, quotient is a term used in relation to division or ratios (same thing). Basically an Intelligence Quotient a ratio of how easy it is for you to learn. So basically what your teacher is looking for is that Intelligience Quotients just measure your ability to learn. It's up to you to do the learning. If you don't study, your IQ doesn't mean anything.

High IQ can be a detriment. If your IQ was so high that in high school you didn't have to do much studying and could still pass with ok grades, you'll get used to only having to do a little work to succede. Once you're in college, everyone has to study pretty hard, so the kids who always had to work hard, even in high school, will have an advantage because they are used to the amount of time they have to put in. The person with the high IQ might not be willing to put the extra time in to make good grades because he never had to before.

Didn't Edison say that intelligence (or invention or something) is 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration? I believe this.

What you teacher is trying to say to you is that if you don't have a high IQ, and you don't (otherwise you wouldn't be asking this question), that you can still accomplish much, even a 2,000 word essay on this question. Working with what you have, instead of doing nothing with what you have, will allow you to accomplish far more than you think you can do. You are far more than you can possibly imagine and you should live your life accordingly!

Only those who don't try really fail.

Correct!

*A person can be very intelligent...but unkind, uncaring, and do only things that benefit themselves.

*A person with a lower I.Q. could be very creative and have a mind filled with ideas of things to do and accomplish for other people.

*Anyone who uses what they have to the best of their ability can live a more fulfilled life.

What are your feelings on the subject? Explaining your feelings can easily take up 2000 words.
