The universe has 4 dimensions. The first 3 are the directional dimensions, and the 4th dimension is time and space.

DavidK93 is pretty much on the mark. part of the theory states that at the beginning of existence, there were/are 10 or 11 dimensions but only 3 (4 if you count Time) expanded and manifested in our universe/reality. The others receded back into the strings themselves.

It depends on which theory your ascribe to. Human observers accept the three spatial dimensions as sufficient to describe physical locations. Many people consider time to be a fourth dimension. String theory suggests that there are ten or eleven,

On a human scale there are 4 - the three of length, width & breadth, plus the fourth of time.
On a sub-atomic level, there now appear to be 11, if you believe the work of experimental physicists in string theory (I do).
If you are interested in reading more about this fascinating idea, let me recommend the scientist/science writer Brian Greene. He has written (at least) 2 books which explain in non-technical terms a lot of the current research in particle physics:
The Elegant Universe
The Fabric of the Cosmos
Both are widely available at, for example, Amazon.

This is us (humans) trying to define something we know NOTHING about. There is no telling how many dimensions there are. Time is time. Our calander means nothing to the grand scheme of time.
Space is space. It is what it is, we just have no idea what it is.

I think 4 because, 4th: time.
But string theory postulates that there are 11

I believe 5...lets start separating time from space. Same time different space and vice-verse.
