I am now a college freshman, and I am Asian. I feel kinda awkward whenever I go to a party of white people; i am not welcome, and they don't really give a damn about me. And I had this bad incident when I went to a dance about a month ago; this white dude sprinkled water at me. So I am kinda reluctant to go to parties these days. Will I never be able to go to parties again?

Of course you can go to parties. Just choose parties where you know some people, so you don't feel so awkward socially. Do you have some friends in the dorms such that you could all go as a group?

With the water sprinkling, I'm sorry that happened.

There are no excuses for behavior like that, but when you go to parties, do expect people not to make the best choices. Sometimes they've been drinking or using drugs.

Don't give up!

I'm Asian also and kinda faced a similar situation. What I did was went out with a small group of closed friends first and then asked
them to take you to the party. At least you will have company.

Be yourself!! and ignore people who try to make fun of you. If they still do it, do the same thing back at him. They should learn how to behave and start acting like a growed-up. HIgh School is over!

I am a white woman who has had great friends who were Hindu and Muslim, as well as a close Chinese friend and a friend from Japan. I'm sorry to hear about your incident.
Please continue to go to parties. Just select your friends more carefully. You might be better off at a smaller party with people you know than a big, all campus party.
Do you have friends from other races in your major or in your dorm?
Not all white people are jerks. Sorry!
Good luck to you.

Join a group of your choosing or liking.

Go partying with a someone else or a date or a group.

Volunteer at something you like doing. Make friends that way & then you'll have plenty of party opportunities.

Find better things to do and don't worry about partying. Partying will mess up your grades anyway. Find some nice friends who like you for who you are and I'll bet partying won't even be on their minds.
