Africa is so big and is home to so many nations, one cannot make statements about all the people there. Jusdt like the differences in Europe or Asia.

Africa is a continent (about 3x bigger than the US),
It's made up of more than 50 countries, which are divided by countless cities, towns and tribes.
There are literally thousands of different African languages.
For people to generalize such a large area is ludicrous.
The view of Africa is so tainted by images of emaciated kids, with flies on their faces needing money, that so many people believe that that is all that exists.
You could just as easily zoom in on a poor area in America and show the filth and squalor that those people live in, should America be known only for that?
Just like there are Mormons and farm dwellers using 'primitive' technology and living as their ancestors did in America, there is the same in Africa. That is not to say however, that that is how everyone there lives.
You would offend some Africans at the thought that they were all primitive and poor with no education.
You don't see the fully developed cities on TV where skyscrapers prevail, and where people drive and watch TV, and listen to 'real' music, and where their school systems surpass many here in America.
Just like here, where New York and L.A. are completely different worlds than a small town in Alabama or a suburb in Montana, village people and city people are totally different. While there are some villages where tradition is intact and National Geographic tapes, that is not the whole of Africa. And it'd be very ignorant of any of you to believe that.

Africa isn't a country. It's a continent. And as there are many countries in Africa, you'll find that not all Africans are alike.

That idiot girl somewhere above me is the reason why people have misconceptions about Africa!
Their best hope is that European countries come run their countries??? They are the ones that ran them to the ground in the first place ! can't stand idiots......
Africa's landscape is so beautiful, acres and acres of green, a Sahara desert of breathtaking presence, perfect blend of man and nature..the cultures are rich and so diverse from one end to another....the people are usually nice, friendly and so grateful for the little they have.
The governments on the other hand are corrupt and a disgrace to the phrase "loving your country" but hopefully, as more and more become educated and apt to run fairly and efficiently, we'll see less of those. Africa is young in the road to democracy as we remember that most of its countries gained independence in the 60s.....

I think they live in Africa...
As a continent with most of the planet's third world countries, where poverty is the norm rather than the exception, ignorance runs rampant, there is no formal education system and the people are ruled by those thugs who seize power by being the most ruthless and strongest, women are treated as objects and possessions, for the sole purpose of a place for male seed to reside. (Kind of like how the Christian Taliban would like it in the US).
Since they live in abject poverty, they create as many children that they can, with the hope that at least one or two will survive to adulthood; this mindset, of course, tends to insure that there is an infant mortality rate greater than half. A kind of self fulfilling prophecy.
At the risk of sounding racist, the best thing the African nations could hope for is to have Europeans come in and run their countries for them, and start focusing on joining the 21st century. Of course, this *should* mean mandatory birth control until the countries can become self supporting.
