The cars you've seen are probably either concept cars, or promotional vehicles built with (very) expensive all-aluminum bodies that have been polished to a high shine and clearcoated. Jaguar built a few of these when it introduced the new aluminum-framed XJ-series, just like Audi, etc. Some of these cars might have chrome paint, and if painted metal, the paint would only be temporary.

There are chrome paints, but they're expensive, so it's only going to be economical to paint smaller parts. Also, those parts need to be a polycarbonate for good adhesion.

The chrome plated show cars have every body panel chrome plated, often before the car is actually assembled. You'd pretty much have to take a car apart to do this.

There is a paint on the market that does give a mirror finish, but it's very expensive, almost to the point that chrome plating a car may be cheaper. There are some "chrome" paints that more closely resemble nickle plating - they look shiny, but they don't give a mirror reflection like chrome.

Chrome paint is junk. There are companies that market/sell chrome systems that spray like paint and give a real chrome plating electrolysis with a water based chemical reaction and adhere to anything. Facinating process. Here's some links: http://alsacorp.com, http://www.futurepaint.nl. Only problem is it's expensive to buy the system. You still have to find someone who does it professionally and get their price. The chrome "paint" (not) runs about $1000 a gallon. That's just paint (stuff). I'm interested in the same thing for my Porsche project.

There is three ways of doing it! #1- the cheaper way of doing it is using chrome paint! #2- is finishing the metal on the body panels to perfection and then clear coating them! but I wouldn't know what you would do with the plastic stuff like bumpers and mouldings! #3- Chrome dip every panel on the car but it will cost you a pretty good coin!

Chrome paint looks like crap. You can buff the sheet metal shinny and then clear coat it. Or, have it Chrome plated. The deloren as all stainless steel.
