I live in a place where there are a great deal of summer storms. They are pretty spectaular. The sky lights up. There is loud thunder and bright lighting. I used to be starlted as a kid, but I am used to it I have lived her my whole life. I had a 28 year old student come here internationally and he got scared an could not sleep. Is this normal? Are people scared by storms?
These are not a problem for people unless they are out in them. People can get electorcuted if they get struck, but these are not tornadoes and do not damage homes. If someone is inside there are fine.
Would you be scared? As a child I have gotten stuck in these, but we just wait and they are over really quickly. I have been on my bike in them, but never hit. I know people who have been struck and survived. I guess they are just part of life.
Would you be scared if you were inside or would you just sleep?
They were happening every night.

I know people who like to look outside and watch. I like to listen to it and curl up and rest. It is kind of restful when the rain starts after all of that.

Or after the violence of the storm is over it is nice to just walk in the rain in a parka and some water sandals.

No. And I really don't think anyone should once they understand thunderstorms. Lighting striking humans is a very rare occurance and the only time it does happen is when we are stupid and don't respect it's power. Lightning is nothing more than an elctrical charge getting attracted to the ground by it's opposite charge. When he hear thunder, it is the result of the lighting scorching the air to the surface of the sun and causing major sound waves due to energy displacment. that is why the bigger the bolt of lightning, the louder the clap of thunder. If we can learn to respect the dangers of weather, we can live and even deal with it's worst events.

All kids seem to just hate the thunder. But now as an adult, I absolutely LOVE thunder storms! Of course, I don't want to be standing out under a tree in a puddle of water, but if I'm inside I open a window and just listen to it. It sounds so cool. I guess if you're not used to loud thunderstorms, even adults can get freaked out by them. They do damage and lightning does kill, so it's something to be respected. I love to go to sleep to the sound of a storm.

I'm never afraid of thunder because it means the lightning missed me. In college I conducted a dance band. I was such a poor conductor I probably have no reason to fear the lightning bolts either.

I wouldnt be scarred, id go to sleep or go play in the storm. Lightning can come into a house, but its rare. Your safeist (sp) in a car that has a hard (metal) top, and 4 wheels (duh). The lightning is essentally electricity and plasma, so the rubber wheels on your car would deflect the lightning cause rubber cant conduct electricity. Being struck by lighting is rare, you have about a 1 in 170,482 (nat'l geograpic) so dont be scarred bout em, they come and go.

I love watching storms, but can understand why some people are scared of them. My brother-in-law,father of 3 and grand-dad of 4,is absolutely petrified of storms. He hides under the table while the kids laugh at him

nah, thunder and lightning don't bother me.. except when you have to dodge 200 consecutive lightning bolts to do an ultimate weapon quest.. that sucked.. but other than that, lightling doesn't bother me.. I might have a different outlook on it if I got struck though..
