it can be hard to make friends but you could shoot for on-line pen pals. there are also 12-step meetings, gambling anonymous and things like that, where it is easy as pie to meet people. what are you interested in doing? i agree that would be depressing gambling that way. why are so many sick people around you? you need to go somewhere new where people are to be found. your life has changed forever and you need to accept that at least. when you are homeless you will have to live by your wits. stop gambling, pay your bills, save your sanity, and give some thought where and how you can meet someone you like.

FIRST of all, find NEW Friends -- one withOUT the vices your current group of friends has: The Gambling Addiction!
Why don't you go to places (Alone) that you never have before -- oh, say, concerts in the park, museums, library events, community picnics, etc? Join a service organization or volunteer time at some place -- like a home for the elderly, a VA hospital, whatever?
YOU need to spend some time doing DIFFERENT Things than you ever did before.
Yes, it is a challenge to be single, but ONLY YOU can make it a FUN TIME -- and leave thoughts of having a relationship behind -- because right now, YOU need to be comfortable in your own skin and find NEW Things to do that are FUN -- yes, FUN.
So go out, take your Camera with you (if you have one) and start shooting scenes of Nature, go to the Library and check out their offerings, go to the Local Community College and take a course for FUN -- anything EXCEPT go to the Gambling Places which COULD easily result in you losing your HOME and Property (like your friend did!)
