I've never won a trivial pursuit game against an elephant.

They have pretty long memories. The best example is at the elephant sanctuary in I think Tennessee. They received a female elephant that had endured some horrible abuse. That elephant and a resident elephant appeared to know each other.

After a little research they did find out that both elephants were in the same location (a circus I think) over 25 years prior to enduring up at the same sanctuary.

Elephants do have remarkable memories. In the wild, elephants appear to remember for years the relationships with dozens, perhaps hundreds of other elephants, some of whom they may see only occasionally. They also have an impressive memory for places to drink and to find food. This information gets passed on from generation to generation.

Elephants are intelligent animals they have brains better than dogs but maybe as bright as dolphins yes they do remember things like the story of two separated young elephants but remembered each other after more than 10 years when they were joined together.

they are mammals just like us and so I am going to go with it is a good possibility that they can and do forget, besides how would anybody know that for sure unless they stayed with an elephant for it's entire lifetime just to study its memory, and even if you do find one that never forgets it doesn't mean that the next one won't forget, besides, what do they really have to remember?

Even if it were true, how could you prove that? Something tells me that it isn't true...for to remember "everything" (from a face to where a slight crack in the concrete is) would require enormous cranial capacity, which elephants don't have...

While it is true that they have excellent memory retention, all living beings forget things.
