I've had my two ionic breezes for over 2 years now and even though they still capture airborn particles the smell is increasingly bad by the catbox - it used to work better. I tilt it up and down several times to reactive it like I've been encouraged to do but the smell is not getting better and it's sitting inches away from the litter box? The small one in the bathroom got better after I tilted it up and down to make the inner compartments move up and down several times. Ideas?

There are three possible causes.

!) Overload. There is more odor being generated than there used to be and the thing can't handle the increased load.

2) Cleaning and 3) low voltage. (related causes)

Essentially, these are electrostatic precipitator units. They do not exactly filter odors out the air (If there is a filter, the filter just removes the bigger particles, ones big enough to see), but work by applying a charge to the tiny particles that pass through a set of wires and the particles then pass beween charged plates which attract the charged particles, trapping them on the surface of the collector plates. This causes a layer to form after a while which acts like an insulator which reduces the effectiveness. Generally, this will be very sticky after a while from oils in the air from things like using a frying pan. Likewise, if the power supply voltage drops, it also limits the effectiveness. Either way, fewer particles are collected per unit time as the plates get dirtier and/or the voltage drops for some reason. The reason for a voltage drop could be something as simple as collected particles eventually providing a semi-conductive path from the ionizer section to the collector section or the power supply could be failing. The power supply is designed for very high voltage at very low current. Any path for electrons jumping the plates will have a large effect at lowring the voltage.

Reaally BIG units which work on the same principle of collecting particles by using a static electrical charge are used in some smoke stacks to reduce particulate matter leaving the stack and stop or have reduced effectiveness for exactly the same reasons.

I unquestionably have study comments that declare that the ionic breeze can unquestionably harm you. curiously once you sparkling it, you're respiration interior the airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dirt in a condensed kind. maximum different air purifiers I unquestionably have owned have been loud, this one is quiet. i'm not too particular approximately what's the terrific product on your desires nevertheless. I did a yahoo seek and the 1st link is the single i assumed in good shape what you have been searching for terrific. If it does not help, the 2d link shows the quest outcomes I picked it from. that's a cleansing equipment so i don't understand in case you had to paintings for the sparkling scent or not. you have diverse ideas of a thank you to apply it. solid success!

The plates need cleaning, ironic how that commercial sucks everyone in and suckers them into paying 300 bucks for a piece of injection molded plastic with a little tin in it! It probably costs all of 3 bucks to manufacture! LOL!

I have had my Ionic breeze for three years and it works fine, but it doesnt have to tackle a cat litter box. I didnt know you were supposed to tilt it up and down to reactivate it, thanks for the tip!
Mine is supposed to control dog smells and cigarette smoke which it does just fine.
