I'm a cook in a primary school and all our food is healthy. we have no chicken nuggets or turkey twizzlers and our burgers are freshly made on site. the children have fresh veg every day and there is always fresh fruit available. the only day we have chips is on a Friday but even then they are oven cooked, not fried. the school cooks work really hard to prepare healthy meals for your children but quite often they come to school unable to recognise any vegetables and we have to re-educate them before they will even try anything new. don't blame the schools, blame the parents

Lack of education. I find it offensive too that because of my objection to my daughter eating macaroni and boiled potatoes for her school lunch, I decided to give her a packed lunch. So now the school that gave my daughter this pathetic "healthy" lunch is going to inspect my daughter's packed lunch???
I find Jamie Oliver's comments offensive. I'm sure he's got a good point but personally, I don't know anybody foolish enough to feed their children Red Bull and cold KFC for lunch.
If there are deep concerns about children and obesity levels, the answer is education. Bring back cooking in schools and nutrition.

The reason there are so many people complaining is the school dinners are horrid. They really are.
I am a year 10 student and at my school, the only food they cook is chips and burgers. Most schools are better now, but ours? No. Soon, they are going to stop the burgers and replace them with raps and salad, but until then, I will not touch a school dinner from our schools kitchen.

Those schools do not have a healthy diet (as yours seems to have)
Also parents have no right to complain if they are not teaching their kids the right choices or take them out to McDona
lds and places like that as a 'treat'

I don't know but yesterday I couldn't stop laughing for half an hour when I watched the news about those parents taking orders from their kids before going to the chippy for them, it was hilarious. So much for Jamies school dinners.

Okay, well I don't know what school your kids go to. but i would love to go there. our school lunches have no produce and healthy balanced diets. you should have seen our ravioli, deli day (when there was pure mold on the turkey), or some of the others.

I don't know why. It's probaly because the other kids in school aren't healthy eaters. I'm not sure because all my life I had ate veggies and fruits because my parents are health nuts.

Because preparing food in institutional quantities results in an overall bland flavoring. Nothing rivals home cooked food.

some parents just don't get it - i give my kids healthy food, but some just can't be bothered. but they'll go all the way to the school to take their kids food from the chip shop, so they don't have to eat the 'rabbit food' that the school supply.!!
