Smart, knowledge in the head and neat appearance
Cool, appearance and does not get feathers ruffled

Smart refers to a person using their intelligence...as in someone figuring out something kind of difficult or challenging, for example. They can be "cool" too...
Cool...is an impression that a person can create, whether they are smart or not. They can also not get themselves into a kerfluffle over things that would upset others...They sluff it off!

a person who is smart is cool....a cool person need not be smart enough. smartness comes along with every activity , everything she or he does ..if they are smart...whereas anyone could be cool regardless of smartness.

Smart is using your common sense to do that right things, cool is what is percieved as acceptable amongst your peers.
