MOTOROLA RAZR V3
FEATURES
Technical Details
Razor-thin aircraft aluminum case
Bluetooth wireless technology
MPEG4 video playback
Built-in speakerphone
Digital camera with 4x digital zoom

We bought both a Black and Pink version of this phone. My review below is about the black phone, but it applies to this pink one, too.

Review for women: it's pink!
Review for men: see below

(just kidding)

I've had the Treo 600 (Sprint) for the past 2 years, and I was getting tired of the bulk and the weight. I also didn't care for Sprint's tools (check out Cingular's MEdia Net). I bought the Treo primarily for e-mail, but I realized I am usually just reviewing and not sending messages.

The RAZR V3 Black has exceeded my expectations (I also bought a pink one for my wife), and it is actually superior to the Treo 600 in many areas.

I am also impressed with Cingular so far, which seems to have better coverage than Sprint in my area (Seattle). The MEdia Net tools are incredible, especially if you are a March Madness fan.

Many features, such as text messaging, seem much easier to use with Cingular and the RAZR than with Sprint and the Treo.

Web browsing also seems slightly faster on Cingular than on Sprint.

Some people complained about low volume. I think this must have been corrected on newer models, as mine is quite loud.

This phone was recalled in early 2006, so it's important to buy from a reputable dealer, where you know you are getting a post-recall (at least mid-March 2006) version of the phone.

Couple of tips:

1. Go to the mobile section of Yahoo and find out how to synchronize your Yahoo Calendar and Contacts with your RAZR calendar and contacts -- it is very cool. You actually synchronize over GPRS instead of via your PC.

2. You can get a mini-USB cable to charge your RAZR from your laptop.

3. Download Opera Mini web browser (mini.opera.com from your phone's WAP browser) to supplement the limited WAP browser.

4. Very nice bluetooth synchronization with Mac OS X's Calendar and Address Book.

Potential show stoppers for some people:

1. Haven't found a way yet to access multiple IMAP e-mail accounts. The included POP/IMAP client seems to only allow one account. There is also support for major ISPs (e.g., Yahoo Mail) independent of the POP/IMAP client.

2. Haven't found a good case yet, so I'm a bit scared sticking it in my pocket unprotected. UPDATE: No problems with no case.

3. The SAR rate seems a bit high, especially during data transmission mode. It will make a nearby radio go crazy with interference right before a text message comes in.

4. The speaker phone is not very good quality, so I end up using the bluetooth headset most of the time.

All in all, we are very happy with our Black and Pink RAZRs on Cingular!
