Hmmm... maybe you can pretend that YOU are one of the characters.... or, someone you know is one of the characters. Think of how you (or that person) would react to the situation? I would also maybe write a few (very short) emotional stories just to practice. Just maybe a scene... a character who just found out someone close to them died for one... a character who got a huge raise or came into a big sum of money for another... maybe just write a page down. Then read it over yourself, make adjustments to try to make it more believable... and you should DEFINATELY have someone else (who is good at giving input) read it. Ask them if they think it's believable. Sometimes you will think it's not (because you wrote it) but everyone else thinks it is.

Good luck!

I think that reading other writers and analyzing their styles and seeing how it can fit into your writ ting style would help.settings in a story can be described in a number of ways, it can be emotional or factual."it was a gloomy and depressing evening "would an example of an emotional style while "it was a bright and sunny afternoon at the crowed park." would be an example of a factual style. you need to have a variety of styles sometime being brief while at other times being more detailed, only by experimenting with them can you find what suits you.
emotions generally can be conveyed by their physical effects, for example :-his face turned purple with rage , he was so angry that the veins bulged on his face ,she was so shocked that she was speechless or her face grew warm with embarrassment . emotions can also be conveyed by actions- she screamed with fear when he raised his hand at her,he clenched his fist in anger, they recoiled with horror at the sight of the horribly mutilated body of the baby.these are some of the way that emotions and setting can be conveyed, but as far as better is concerned this requires a comparison. so you need exposure to other writers , this may be done by reading as many different authors as possible or if you can participate in writers forums and if possible colaborate with another writer.you need to have circle of friends to ask for their opinons and ideas and if neccessary cultivate friendship with experts for in depth knowledge and accuratcy in your story .to have a consistant story , it needs to be planned, you need to have an outline of places and characters as well as their relationship with each other. i am not a writter, but i read a lot. you need to decide what type of stories you want to write as well as the style of writting.
i hope that this will help. gabe
