Marriage wasn't always sacred (in the Christian world), Church made marriage sacred in early middle age, and before that was a contract between a man and a woman with rights and obligations from each one to another. Today even church consideres marriage a contract, no matter what. So legally speaking, same-sex marriage must be legal, and by allowing that, society won't fall apart. Anyway people still have to learn that two men (or two women) can (yes, they can) fall in love.

Yes, I am in support of same sex marriage for two main reasons. First off, because I personally would like to marry my wonderful girlfriend and soulmate. Secondly, because people in a same sex relationship are less likely to get divorced than opposite sex relationships. (Yes, it's true, I did the research for an English project last year.) Besides, if the people are in love with each other, why does it matter if they're same or opposite sexes? That's right, it doesn't matter, love is love, no matter what form it may come in.

Same sex marriage was common world-wide even among Christians until around the 10th century. Stopping it served no purpose except to create a new class of legalized victims. Reversing this ancient Christian act of bigotry would be a step forward for Human rights on par with the ending of slavery.

I'm in favor of same sex marriage, we have a right to be married just like a straight couple. We have loving, caring relationships and our unions should be recognized just like a heterosexual union. the only difference is it's 2 people of the same sex, and not one of each.

I'm not in favor of marriage at all but I think everyone has the right to get married. So yeah if two people of the same sex want to get married why not.

Of course in favour most evolved people are, the religious nutters still need to cling to what they know but as few develope very much after they catch the god virus, we may need to wait for them to die out ...but it will happen.

One Man and One Woman????

It is taken as an article of faith by the anti-gay marriage bigots that marriage has always been between one man and one woman. That is not true. Historically, many, if not most marriages were between one man and multiple women. This is still true in parts of the world, including, although illegally, some in the Western U.S.

Trying to justify their bigotry through historical evidence works a lot better if they have actually examined the evidence. Or, at least, if no one else has examined that evidence and can contradict them.

If those involved wish to call it marriage, that's alright. For a legal definition of the union, I think it should be called "Life Partner". My reason is I believe such a union should be privileged to all the same things a hetero union is privy to. I believe it should be legal as in a licensed committed sanctioned service. I believe the term marriage should be reserved for hetero unions where it is presumed there will be procreation.

i'm in favor of same sex marriage, because people who love each other should be able to express their love in the form of marriage, no matter what their sexual preference is. i don't understand why people make such a big deal about it - gay people are just like straight people, except they have relationships with members of the same sex. people seem to have such a hard time realizing this ...

Of course, why shouldn't I be? Marriage isn't a religious event, it's a state affair. You have to get a certificate from the state to get married. I deserve to have the same benefits as everyone if and when I do choose to get married, why should I be denied them? If a few religious people want to get their panties in the bunch, oh well. You don't see them whining everytime Atheists get married because marriage is oh-so such a religious ordeal. Give me a break.

Yes. Two people loving each other is never wrong, and commitment to each other within the ritual of marriage should not be constrained by gender. Lots of people are opposed to gay marriage because they are afraid homosexual couples will raise kids "wrong"; they are ignorant and insular, haven't they realized that this isn't true? They don't say that gay people are that way because their straight parents raised them gay, do they now? When will people realize that sexual orientation is determined by a variety of factors, a large component of which has to do with the biochemistry inside a person? Anyway, I would just want to have two parents who love me and treat me well, which is a lot more than can be said of a heck of a lot of heterosexual parents.
