Out government would survive without this tax, our fore fathers didn't pay a tax on their income. Our constitution specifically forbids such a tax, in two places. Something smells here.

And the smell is getting worse. One solution is the Fair Tax, legislation that will repeal all corporate and individual income taxes, payroll taxes, self-employment taxes, capital gains taxes, estate taxes and gift taxes - and replace it with a revenue-neutral personal consumption tax. The Fair Tax is one of the most exciting proposals to ever reach the American people.

Actually, the Constitution specifically and explicitly allows Congress "to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived". (16th Amendment)

And the government wouldn't survive in its current form, because it expends far to much money. We don't have a balanced budget on the best of years, and have been hemorrhaging half-a-trillion dollars in new debt every year for the past half-dozen. Remember that the Founders expected the federal govt to be one of limited enumerated powers, not the monstrosity is has become.

If income taxes stop, then a large percentage of government spending would also need to stop. Most social programs, almost all foreign aid, reduction in bureaucratic regulation. And some alternative funding source would be required for the rest, such as a national property tax or a national sales tax.

Personally, I think that's a great idea. The federal government doesn't need to be doing 75% of what it is currently, and there are much more effective tax options. But that's a different issue.

As a former Corporate tax examiner, I took the liberty to find out myself. I sorted and sifted through all the tax codes and couldn't find but one lame excuse. There was a time when a tax was placed on the people for a limited time. the fed breached the constitution and law was passed to permanently place the people on a graduating scale according to income. With little or no gripes from the people and they saw it as a good thing to expand government services. When all along what the gov did is illegal and that is where the beginnings of all the Lie's that the gullible Americans accept as law. One case went to court for owing 10 years of taxes. The man cited th constitution over a over again while the judicial judge was reading out the punishment, late fee's, and confiscation of all the mans assets. After out of court the man ended his life. The country is going to hell because of a corrupt segment within.

A hundred years ago, you would have had a valid gripe, since the Constitution had not been specifically amended to provide the Federal government with the power to tax income.

There actually was an income tax during the Civil War, in a very limited fashion, but it ended at the end of that war. There was then another attempt to tax income, during the 1890's, I believe, and that was found unconstitutional. However, the Constituion can be amended, and amend it they did, making income tax completely legal.

Don't listen to people who tell you not to pay your taxes. The people telling you won't go to jail, but you might!

Taxation is the lifeblood of our running the nation - the Philippines. It is one way of deriving revenue for the government. This revenue in turn shall defray our government expenses in delivering basic government services to the people like education, health, infrastructures so that we will have good bridges and roads...and other services to serve the Filipino people. Remember, our population has swollen at a very alarming rate..and our forefathers are much richer before than us today.. So economists and consultants as well as the lawmakers have to devise a legal scheme to raise revenue for the government. And Income tax is just one of the taxes to be paid by a Filipino or even aliens doing business here in the Philippines. This is not agains the Constitution..please read the latest amended Constitution of the Philippines, please.

My friend, that is whay we must pay our taxes, so that in turn the government can take care of us through the above services they afford to evry Filipino...including but not limited to maintaining peace and order, enough food for the Filipinos, employments opportunities and many more.

Where in the world did you get the idea that the Constitution prohibits income tax? Take a look at the 16th Amendment:

"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

While I agreed the income tax in the U.S. could use reform, it is not prohibited by the Constitution.

don't pay tax
dont file
just don't complain when you are hauled into court ( IRS tax court mind you .. ) fined and then jailed for tax evasion ( look up Irwin Schiff, he was a famous tax dodger and met up with his fate.. )
and even after you serve any time, you're still on the hook for the fines and penalties ( and you NEVER want the IRS to try to figure out what you made, as they always error on the higher number and you cannot do anything about it )

You are correct! But always pay your taxes, or you will be very sorry.
If the Democrats get back into power, expect your taxes to go way up.
