since its a paper anniversary, take your vows or wedding program, enlarge it, personalize it by writing something on it, then have it beautifully framed....congrats !
This is a very good Idea...My hubby and I got married October 22, 2005 so this year will also be our first wedding Anniversary I just might do this since we both wrote our own vows to each other and they mean so much to the other ( it made us cry to hear them and the guests too ) I think that is a wonderful Idea.. I know this wasn't my question but it helped me alot. :)
But yea I agree about the candles, dinner, maybe a quite slow dance in the living room to soft music just the two of you. And then take it to the bedroom from there... That is what I plan to do and now that the above was mentioned I plan to do that also and present that to him as a gift. Hope I have helped. :)

BUY is already a wrong approach...
You of course can buy him a present, but on wedding anniversary there are few things which are more important.
Make his favourite food. Put some candles around. Do what he likes in bed. Tell him you are pround that a man like he is your husband.
Be creative and loving.
As a present either buy him some sex toy or something for his car.

First anniversary is paper (traditional gift) so some options would be to write him a letter telling him what the first year of marriage has meant to you, perhaps recounting some special moments you want to document...
Perhaps a poem...
A photograph of the two of you at your favorite restaurant or taken during a special activity...
A newspaper from the day you were married or from the day you met or the day he was born...
A photo album of your dating months/years...
A double frame with a picture of each of you as babies... or in middle school... or high school graduation...
Tickets to a show - a sporting event - a play - a concert - something he would enjoy... just think paper :)

Make a list of all the things that he likes to do, write down your budget and get something related to that. Don't go for sentimentality things like albums of your first together etc...guys just aren't into that. They'll love more gadgets or some new pyjamas better! You could surf online to look for 'guy gifts' which will give you a better idea.

Since the first anniversary is paper try what I did. I made a mock cheque from "Cupid tlc" paying all my love to her. My wife loved it and we're five years and still counting.
Go for a romantic meal and "present" the cheque to him.

Summer - it is not the gift it is the thought. So buy him something he enjoys doing (hobby, sports, games) and hopefully it is something both of you can enjoy. Congratulations on your anniversary
