I have bears coming into my yard and eating filberts (hazel nuts) and damaging the trees. How do I go about stringing a 110 volf wire around the perimiter of my yard.
Do I just use on strand of bare wire about 18 inches off the ground and will this work. ?
By just touching this wire will the bear feel the electricity or do I have to set a ground peg at the other end?

Whatever you do, do not string a wire with house current. That is the legal equivalent of wiring a shotgun to go off, when someone opens a door. It is a booby trap. If someone gets killed you will be found guilty of causing their death. If someone's pet gets killed, same story.
Take the advice another responder gave. Check with your local wildlife or game commission, and use what they recommend. They'll be able to tell where to get what you need.

Purchase the field fence charger! DO NOT use any other electric source.
The best wire stringing method is several strands on PVC pipe posts. You will need to keep a ground wire in place.
Another method may be to use a motion activated water sprinkler.
I bet the two used together would insure quite a jolt for Yogi or Boo Boo......if they tried to steal the pic a nic basket!

ordinary, purchase a 12 gauge shotgun with 18 a million/2" barrel. Load it with slugs and make the final around or 2 00 buckshot. this would provide up any undergo out to one hundred yards with the slugs, and no count if it remains on that is ft and nearer than 40 5 yards, the buckshot will end it. I carried an Ithaca kind 37, 18 a million/2" each and every time i grow to be putting the bait for my undergo face, I easily have considered the effect of even a grizzly undergo killed with buckshot by potential of a guy in Alaska. the super area is, this comparable set up will manage any subject critter, 4 legged or 2 legged. attempting to apply a handgun with sufficient means to resign a undergo isn't for the faint of heart. I easily have taken black undergo with handguns. have faith me, that is hard and frightening. My contemporary decision is a mossberg 12 gauge with 20" barrel (which provides me 2 greater rounds interior the magazine, plus greater accuracy, plus that is used for chicken looking in a pinch, yet remains sufficiently small for me to handle in close quarters. It has a flashlight geared up into the forearm, and contains 5 greater rounds on the buttstock (3 slug and a pair of buckshot). shoot risk-free

Go with the real thing on a electric fence
that 110 idea sounds like jail time if someone gets hurt,
or at least a law suite

An electric fence should work. A lot of people up here in Alaska use them to protect their smokehouses. But then again if filberts are a bears natural food in your area let him be. A neighbor of mine uses her screaming voice and a broom to ward off the bears.

After you cook the bear, are you going to eat it with the filberts? 110 is strong.
Get one of those little toy fox terriers that drive bears crazy, but they can't catch them.

You may want to check with game and fishery before you attempt this because of some laws that may apply were you live..also you may want to check with the ploicy of your home in case children may come in to your back yard..remember bears can be very unpredictable even more when they have their young with them they will attack ........Please use caution when you are in the same area as the bears!!!!!!

What you are suggesting is highly illegal anywhere!!!
Check with your local game commission or whatever it is called in your area to see what they recommend to do.
As others have suggested a farmer's electric fence will probably work as they will actually give much more of a jolt but at a safer amperage and are legal to use.
