After the president's assumption that he is above legislators and judiciary, and the refusal to grant everybody their human rights under the UN and Geneva conventions one might be forgiven for thinking that.
Please go easy on the invective, I heard it all before.
Reasoned argument would be appreciated.

No way.One person and his dictatorial ways means nothing to a great democracy like USA. The president will change in 2008. Then the fireworks will start. Bush will be questioned for his deeds and misdeeds. The new man we hope, will be more of a statesman than a politician.Eye for eye will leave most of the world blind. He will have to make amends for all the misdeeds. The only way to bring back peace on the face of this Earth is to talk with all aggrieved parties and address the grievances, problems unresolved and festering and bring some semblance of succor and make the environs congenial for talks.

First: Congratualtions on your very correct grammer. Seriously. HOw many people remember that "USA" is plural?

Second: To answer your question. The USA are finally turning into a SAFE state. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. We can no longer afford to be soft and easy the way we were before. Now the population needs to be protected from it's own weakness and ignorance by those who know better. Terrorists prey on Americans' kind-heartedness and goodness.

Bush and his men will transform America into the hyperpower it should always have been, free from the shackles of "liberal" democracy. A true democracy will result. a democracy run by men born and raised to rule with a kind but strong hand.

Name one right that has been abused under the Geneva Convention? Under Geneva convention rules we can shoot or hang anyone who fights us in a war zone that is not wearing a uniform. Period. In WWII we would have. Frankly I think we should. I have not heard the UN complaining about the Militants cutting off prisoners heads, burning them and dragging their bodies on the streets, and putting it all on the Internet. No complaint out of them while their soldiers are raping women in Africa.

I don't care about terrorists' rights. They have none as far as I'm concerned. But Bush shouldn't be allowed to do a lot of the things he's doing, either. He shouldn't be above the law. People can blame liberals all they want, but they're not the majority rule in Congress. Bush gets his way far too often. My wish is that he would be put on trial and questioned for his actions, but I'm sure that day won't come--at least not as long as he's President.

Dunnno...
War means victims... US made more physical victims than the 9/11 attacks... War means torture - who told it would be clean - but I am worrying because it has been legalized.
War means information control and intel - with the modern means probably all of our email has been scanned...

I am worrying about the fact should have been over... Where is Ben Laden - why US troops are in Iraq and are not trying to capture him
I am worrying about Patriot Act

I am worrying about the fact those temporary situations are lasting too much

not totalitarian. It can be dictatorship. It is neoliberal state at all, because government and state are out of ecnomy. But it is going to be dictatorship. In this way, Bush situation shows that modern democracy are not the perfect form of civil living of human together.

I think you make a good point. When the Constitution is being so blatantly disregarded, I think we will lean toward totalitarianism. If the religious right has there way, George would be King.

It doesn't matter because the US is owned by China and that's what we really need to mindful of. Our trade deficit is huge with a large percentage owed to China and if China decided to call in their "chips"....well lets just say.....we will be a broke totalitarian state....

I can't tell. My life hasn't changed. I still do what i like now that I did 10 years ago. My life isn't being controlled. If the government wants to listen to my phone calls, I don't really care. I have nothing to hide.
