It will deteriorate and seperate into different layers of compounds. It won't serve as well as could be as a motor fuel. For that reason, it should not be stored for longer than a month without adding a chemical stabilizer. Here in the US the most common such chemical compound is known by the brand name "Sta-bil". It will stabilize petrol for up to six months or more. The additive has no deleletorious effect upon the petrol's performance as a motor fuel.

petrol is a volatile liquid. SO, it evaporates very quickly, when kept stagnant. It does not get stale or spoilt. Fuel stabilisers are added to keep it from evaporating

If petrol is kept some parts of it evaporate. Petrol is a mixture and the smaller molecules are more volitile.

Yes. There are fuel stabilizers you can add that will make it last longer.

How long depends on the amount and how well it's sealed from air / moisture. A small amount probably won't be good over a year... or even a larger amount in a vented tank.

Yes. The organic molecules can be oxidized, especially in the presence of water. Molecules can be degraded by biological activity. The lower mass molecules will evaporate preferentially.
