We have ducts called lacrimal glands that are stimulated by the limbic system of the brain to release tears in response to emotional situations. Tears occur in happiness and sadness. It is a partly learned response and explains why some people can fake tears...they have worked on it....

because of the fact our bodies are complicated and overall performance in many approaches to guard itself that we cant understand. i've got self belief the nerves and the sensation of the area around the eyes sell the tear ducts to produce tears.

I have looked into this and it seems that nobody knows or even has any good theories as to WHY this happens, only HOW.
