Angular cheilitis is an inflammatory lesion at the labial commissure, or corner of the mouth, and often occurs bilaterally. The condition manifests as deep cracks or splits. In severe cases, the splits can bleed when the mouth is opened and shallow ulcers or a crust may form. Although the sores of angular cheilitis may become infected by the fungus Candida albicans (thrush), or other pathogens, studies have linked the initial onset of angular cheilitis with nutritional deficiencies, namely riboflavin (vitamin B2) and iron deficiency anemia, which in turn may be evidence of poor diets or malnutrition (e.g. celiac disease). I used to have bouts of this and then purchased a multivitamin pill and took it daily and the problem cleared. My reason because I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, so anemia is always on the cards. Try taking a Vitamin tablet with iron and see if it improves.

Vaseline in the wind and baby oil when it is not windy.
Mix a few drops of sunscreen SPF 30++ . It is the combination wind, sun and saliva that cause chapping. Apply everyday. these items are cheaper by volume than the commercially sold items and contain basically the same ingredients.
