Is that why 'experts' recommend we drink cranberry juice to prevent cystitis, or are they taking the piss?

I can't even comment on that statement because I've never tasted (wee) to make the comparison.

Cranberries are very sharp in tatse so they have to add lots of water and sugar so it can be drunk. Unfortunately, some companies add a lot of water to make more profit so certain brands are very watery indeed. Try to find a brand which has a higher percentage of juice or perhaps go for a brand which has no added water but mixes the cranberries with oranges etc Eg Cranberry/orange Cranberry/Apple etc. You'll get the benefits of both fruits, better taste, and no added water or sugar.

Try a different brand! Cranberry juice does not taste like wee if done right.

Get yourself out into the pine forests and pick your own.
They grow wild along with the blueberries from august on is the best time. Make your own juice with them, we do and it does not taste bad at all.
I'm not taking the pi55 We make all our own juices, costs nothing and is a day out in the forest.
