When ever I have a political discussion about politics with people in the military, they are very dismisive and patronizing. I imagine many of the people who personally attacked me and not the questions are military. No, I'm not flapping my lips. People in the military feel that civilian's opinions are lacking. This may be a hang-over from Viet Nam, when this country was torn apart and some civilians literally spat on servicemen. This may also be part of the military brainwashing

Probably because to join the military you give up free will to some extent ...your told what to do and when to do it ...thinking isnt the big skill required ,being able to drop your own opinion and follow orders is the skill required.

If they really took on board the publics opinion they wouldnt be able to do the job,so is easier to dismiss it

Not believing that everyone in the military feels or treats all civilians the same. Just as in any other group or organization every one has an individual opinion. There is a code of honor that does not permit some to speak out on what they may actually think of our gov. or its policy.
Most of us that have lived that life (22yrs) don't expect the general population of civilians to understand us or what we have been through. Brain-washing is not the problem. What we do and how we live is whats makes a person, military or not.
We do know who pays our salaries, how do you decide how much a person should earn for giving their life for you?

I am not attacking you, just asking a question.

From the other questions you have posted on here it seems you really don't think the men and women who are serving in the military HAVE any opinions of their own. You say they are brainwashed and if I can get irritated by your lack of information I can only imagine what soldiers must feel when put face to face with them. Must feel like a firing squad.

I can only imagine that they feel like you are looking down on them with your opinions. I wouldnt get patronizing though. If I didn't want to listen, I'd either walk away or tell you to shut the F*** up:) Same thing to anyone, not picking on you:)

It's not that they feel civilians shouldn't have an opinion. It's that they know it is impossible for civilians to know all of the facts of military life. Military life, and life in a war zone, is so different from day to day life for most people. Our soldiers, sailors and airmen don't want the people whom they are sworn to protect to pass judgment on them or their actions without fully understanding the situation.

People in the military don't think this. You are basing your question on a false premise.

Chickenhawk civilian Republicans in control of the government think that Americans should shut up and put up with their policies. THEY are the one's trying to stiffle opinions different from theirs. Bush is beginning to go a farther -- he says people shouldn't think a certain way - it's "unacceptable"!

Excerpt from President's speech yesterday: -----

Q Mr. President ...don't you think that Americans and the rest of the world are beginning to wonder whether you're following a flawed strategy?

THE PRESIDENT: .. I simply can't accept that. It's unacceptable to think that there's any kind of comparison between the behavior of the United States of America and the action of Islamic extremists...

Note: the reporter did not draw any comparisons, re-read his question! But the Bush clearly tells us what NOT to THINK.

You are a very confused lassie.
People in the military are fighting so civilians DO have the freedom to have an opinion.
Do your homework and study, study.

In the military, first they rip the civilian ought of you and then make you into something else-A soldier. So of course its easy to see why someone who believes they were once nothing and are now more think that people who havent achieved more should have no opinion! ESPECIALLY on things regarding politics, govt, and war.
