Authors shouldn't use too much introspection. It will make the character seem overly self-interested. That will make the reader more annoyed than sympathetic to the character

I completely agree with the other two opinions.

If the character becomes too introspective, you lose some of the forward momentum of the story. You would leave a lot of readers yelling "Get on with it!" if they had to wade through too much internal dialogue.

Sure, your characters should be well-developed and make choices that make sense in light of who they are, but try and limit them to a little introspection and let their decisions and actions speak for who they are.

I agree with Dan; this irritates readers. Characters need to make logical decisions, but this doesn't mean they over-analyze. Have them look into themselves as much as a real person would.
