I only want people to answer who have a clue please because this is worrying me. For the last 10 years I have had totally normal, regular periods (every 28 days). This month I didn't come on but throughout the whole week had period pains as though I was going to which has NEVER happened before. I get pain maybe an hour before or an hour after it starts, never a week. Yesterday I bled a little which started off pink and it increased into what seems like a normal period so far (tho maybe not AS heavy tho still quite heavy) but I still am in pain! Initially I thought maybe I was pregnant tho it was quite unlikely. Now I am on I doubt that. But WHY all the pain? For the past 2 weeks I've been dizzy, off my food, and ridiculously emotional - either REALLY IRRITABLE or crying! Does anyone have experience please? The lateness (4-5 days) I have come to terms with, but the spurts of pain all week is bothering me. Thanks.

I would strongly recommend you talk to a health care professional straight away. There are a number of serious problems that could cause the symptoms you've described and even more minor ones.

Don't accept any "diagnosis" you get unless it comes from a qualified professional.

You can visit your doctors as a priority if you call them, or if you're in the UK you can call NHS Direct and speak to a qualified nurse by calling 0845 46 47. They are open 24 hours a day and the service is strictly confidential.

Hope that helps,
froggie

It is possible that maybe you were pregnant, hence all the pain before and during your bleeding. However I think that is unlikely. It could just be that your body is changing and that your periods may now be painful. However I would suggest that you see your doctor as soon as you can. It could be something simple like a small infection, but the sooner you get it checked out the better. Especially as it is bothering you so much. I have had 3 children and I know that my periods have changed so much over the years, however I do think having that much pain is not normal for you and should be checked out. Good luck with it and I hope you feel better soon.

I suffer from irregular and very painful periods so do sympathise. Medicaly speakin your symptoms could be a number of things. A hormone imbalance, brief pregnancy womb, cysts, painful ovulation or just a one off. My best advice would be to keep a diary and note all the symptoms if it happens again and then speak to your GP. without other detailed information it is difficult to give a clearer picture as to what it may be.
Hope this helps a little
best wishes

You could be pregnant
You could have an infection
You could be just having an off time
The body goes through lots of changes in approximately 7 year cycles
I experienced this kind of thing a few times and it was never anything serious
It is always best to go to the GP to get it checked out because it will settle your mind. Some infections can have long lasting effects so go see the doctor please.

Not sure about the pain, but the late thing could be as simple as when your friends have their periods! I'm assuming you know how we all align our periods with the women were around.

hi,

I think that this might be a trip to your GP - I am wondering whether you may have an ectopic pregnancy - I am not trying to scar but these things are always better if checked out early. Also you don't mention your age.... maybe you could need your FSH levels checked... I had this sort of problem and it is now settling down but please talk to your GP
