They say a tummy line usually appears during pregnancy, but both of my teen-age daughters have one.

I think you may be asking about "tummy time". It used to be the recommendation that babies be put to sleep on their tummies. However, research has shown that increases the risk of SIDS, so now it is the recommendation to put babies on their backs to sleep. Babies need to spend some time on their tummies to develop the muscles needed to crawl, roll over, and lift their heads. When babies were put on their tummies most of the time, that wasn't an issue, but now most babies spend their time on their backs and don't have as much natural opportunity to develop those other muscles. Tummy time is just some time during the day that you put your baby on his/her tummy.

are you talking about the line down your stomach during pregnancy? if so its called the linea nigra..caused by hormones during pregnancy
