If your only interest in the Fedora distro is because you don't want to pay for your OS then consider Ubuntu as a first step instead.

Otherwise just hang around the Fedora forums, ask the right questions and show a little leg.

You might also want to take a look at WINE too. A lot of good has come from the Windows developer community, and it'd be a shame to wave goodbye to it all.

One final thought, if you've got a burner then you might want to try a couple of the live CD/DVD distributions before you commit (or are committed). I personally prefer Debian, but Linux distributions can often be an acquired taste. And maybe - just maybe - you might even decide that splashing out for a proprietary OS isn't so bad after all.

Have fun.

Just download and install it. There is plenty of documentation on the web about Fedora Core 5.

Personally i use Slackware and Ubuntu.
