There is extereme chaos in the Western world. How can we get back to the pre 911 picture. Whilst not perfect we did have some semblance of peace in most parts of the world. Are we tackling the right things? Whilst there has always been radicals and there always be, can we do something to reverse the trend of droves of people becoming radicals. We need peace. Are we tackling the symptoms (terrorists) rather than the cause (why did they become one in the first instance?). If this is true, short term solution is tackling the terrorists but long term solution is to tackle the cause - why are they becoming terrorists when for decades they have not been. Lets unite, irrespective of religion, race, creed or nation, and bring peace to this world. We and our next generations deserve it. This will be our legacy.

The USA has become insular and disrespectful of its friends. The damage that has been done to the world order will not be repaired in this generation.

There is hope for the future, once the current fashion for terror fades into history. Terrorism runs in cycles; this one will run its course too.

In the meantime, the US is despised by Muslims, even many of its own, it is scorned by its former friends.

Things will probably get worse before they get better. There will be economic upheaval; the world may not be able to support its population. The will be political upheaval, and there will be continued corruption. Let us hope that the current wave of corruption and profiteering -- the concentration of great wealth among a few people in America -- also runs its course. Before the next 2 generations have to face the burden of paying off the cost of the Iraq War folly . . . to China, which bought the Treasury bonds used to finance the war.

A war fought by other people's sons and daughters while most Americans went shopping in the mall as usual.

It's not clear that things were that peachy before 9/11, it may just be that most people weren't aware of it.

Bush has been extraordinarily bad about aritculating this: The war on terror is a war between civilizations of the global community and a small fragment that has been left behind by it, and wants to hit the reset button. On THAT basis, we should be fighting terrorists. Every legitimate government in the world wants these people stopped, they want to kill innumberable people, and that we have to haggle for assistance is just bungled diplomacy.

And the War on Terror is being used as a catch all for almost every Republican cause here. It needs to be seperated from other issues, and pursued with different tactics. It should not be wrapped up in the dabate over Iran's nuclear program, Lebanon, or Korea. These are all distractions that, while vaguely related, require different methods to resolve and have varied levels of support around the globe. Connecting the war on terror to these issues hampers the unity and tactical agility that we need to conduct this battle.

That said, while I'm more liberal than the people in charge, I don't get the hard left-wing anti-war stance. Not fighting or engaging in international disputes is unrealistic, particularly for a superpower.

Hope this helps!

Which was the one that didnt cry? The Iraqi's expressed sympathy, and look where it got them!!

If you mean the Taliban then ok, I'll accept that.

The only way to get back on an even keel is to treat the middle east on an equitable basis. Stand up for the little guy (the palestinians this time), cos the Israel is there to stay. Throw your weight behind sorting out that problem and the rest will go away.

Youve really messed up Iraq. Its gone from a prosperous dictatorship (which may well have ended after saddam died naturally) to a civil war zone and breeding ground for terrorists.
I've no idea how to get out of that one.

Actually, historically, the U.S. has been extremely lucky that there are oceans that separate the country from the majority of the world. There has always been unrest in parts of the world, and change is inevitible. There is no way to 'reverse' the trend...there is only change...but you must realize with change comes implications of difficulty and responsibility. Its not an easy task...look at the welfare systems, and their revisions, all over the world if you need a relative example of what I mean. It is gallant that you are so concerned about the welfare of common man. You should continue searching answers for your questions...study hard and become a professor. The world needs people like you.

If people's moral indignation wouldn't outweigh their humanity, I think we could make some progress here. A responder before me placed some of the blame on the denial of God, but I beg to differ.

I believe that it is organized religion, and more specifically, religious zealots, that are responsible for some of the most ugly and heinous things that have ever been done on the face of this earth. Wars, hate, torture, the whole "I am right, you are wrong" mentality. If there is indeed a higher power, he is not pleased at what is being done in his name.

Love thy neighbor. Do unto others. Pay it forward. Share the wealth. If everyone could stop being so selfish and think about the suffering of other people, and maybe reach out and do something for someone else.....

Fighting fire with fire is not working, that's a fact.

You guys in the US can, should and have to correct you big mistake of letting Mr. Cowboy run the whole business.
1. Don't vote Republicans in November.
2. Go public showing your disapproval .
3. Accept that the US has to compensate Iraq for damages.
4. Pull out the troops.
5. Stop that patriotic rhetoric.
6. Stop driving gas chugging SUVs (don't sponsor your oil driven boy in the White House).
7. Hold Georgie and Co (Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc.) accountable. They have to pay for the damage they have inflicted.
... Boy! It's a whole agenda.

Another pathetic terrorist attack, or some huge natural disaster that wipes out the majority of the States.
Something like that.

Otherwise, people like to hate God and deny him in our country, which is controversial to what this nation was founded on. So until we realize this and change it, nothing will get us back where we were before.
