Absolutely. Colourfast pigments are not widely used for temporary applications as they are expensive. There may be other solutions such as lightfast transparent pigmented artists paint, or specially formulated glass paint, both of which can be used on acetate.

Unless you pay a small fortune for the best colourfast material, anything else is likely to fade/discolour. Try typing acetate into a search site, you could find more out

Yeah they do tend to fade ...and they can lose their original shape.
