had mine removed after a few months as I had constant swelling in my hands. Also never got to grips with not knowing when I would bleed. but have friends who have been using it for years and love it.

I had the Mirena coil in for 3yrs just after I had my baby, in this time I put on loads of weight 3 stone in fact, my hands and boobs were constantly swollen and aches and pain all over was very emotional and angry. I never put it down to the coil just thought it was problems after having my second child at 38yrs old. I was looking on web one night and came across a web site about mirena coil and was shocked as all the symptoms I had were related to the coil. Was due my smear test so had coil removed at same time and went back to normal coil. The only plus thing I found about mirena coil is had no periods for most of time I was on it. Within weeks of the change hands and boob swelling disappeared, feel alot better in myself and am gradually losing the weight I gained, so for me the mirena coil was a no no but I do know people who have had no problems.
