Interesting characters and plot. Some humor. Keeps you guessing. To be great, my opinion is that the characters should be fully developed.

A good novel is how well it is written. A great novel is how long it stays with you after it becomes a classic!

What makes a good novel is characters that are, if not likeable, interesting; what makes a novel great is writing that is lyric and beautiful!!

I think this all depends on what genre the novel is in. For example Stephen King relies on his twists and suspense and horror while someone like dickens relies on something completely different so i think it is hard to give a definite answer to your question at least until you make it more focused

the reader.
Some novels are considered great, but I do not like them.
It depends on the skill level of the reader as well, some cannot understand or remember the complex plot twists that some stories have.
In short, It will need to be entertaining to the target audience.

Well first you have to think of a story that hasnt been written yet. Then you have something good. Diverse characters, well planned plot line , then throw in what ever your imagination can think of. Good stories are the one that make people think alot about life or that keeps them thinking about what that world would be like.
