Dammit! It shouldn't have to be this hard to name anything. But y'all are right, that is the case.

I can think of a few people...celebrities...but some don't even cop to being filipino or having filipino origins.

My most recent burst of filipino pride was when I came across Manuel L. Quezon III's blog. I like his politics and his father is (or should be) a role model for filipinos everywhere.
This is his blogsite: http://www.quezon.ph/index.php

Regardless, I am still a hopeful and proud filipino.

Your question needs to be placed on the headlines of all Filipino publications. It's a very good one - to the point and no B.S.

Sad to say, there is really no answer to it, except the Filipinos' being survivors, despite of... (?). period.

One of your answers posted a good observation, being an outsider, and visitor. Everyone knows the sad state of the country, as it continues to spiral down the dark ages with the irony of having the highest literacy rating in the asean region.

A few spike of greatness created by some of your honored countrymen like Pacquiao, Lea Salonga, etcetera... are fleeting. What carries more weight is how does the country sustain such production of great people?

Philippines embelish itself with political mediocrity. Its state of affairs right now has not really changed from the time the Spaniards were ruling your nation. Your countrymen are continually being exploited for its naivete, and there really are no human rights existing there unless the law is presented with compensatory figures by those who can afford it.

Sorry, dude. I'm only telling you the truth. I won't be surprised if suddenly, someone would debate on this issue.

All I can say, whoever barks the loudest is the one that got hit the hardest. Unless the Philippines face the truth of its state, it'll never find its old glory again.

I guess you will know the answer by now, after one day and this is the second answer, there is little to be proud of for a Filipino.

I am not one but have spent time in your country, interected with many people from different walks of life all over and this is my sad conclusion.

Unless, there are major social and economic reforms in the Philippines, your state of affairs will worsen and this country will continue spiralling downwards.

Once the richest of the South East Asian coutries during the 60's, it has spiralled downwards into the dark ages despite having the highest literacy rate in the same region today.

What went wrong?

Pre-marital sex, Church controlled regulations against contraceptives, abortion and divorce has resulted in a ever exploding population.

Its a country where ignorance is fully exploited by the politicians and rich. Where presidents are elected not by action but by looks and popularity. A nation of gullible people pretending to be educated.

A nation of little charity where the rich can tuck in american fast foods while dirt-coated homeless are scavenging for left overs in the dumpsters within the same mall.

Filipinos can blame the Spaniards, the Americans and their politicians for destroying their country but most of all, they need to blame themselves.

Revamp the constitution, cut the bull about human rights, bring back the death penalty, install marshall law. Once you have security, the investments and tourists will be flooding back.

Don't prostitute yourselves to the world anymore.
