A lot of American's do feel like some people are hating them. The question "Why do people hate America" surfaced a lot, especially after 9/11, so, some people got together, did some amazing research, and published a book to answer this question from many different angles. This is one of the most influencial books i've read.
Paperback version is very inexpensive.

No, I don't feel hated as an American. Here is what I notice though:
Many industrialized areas like Europe, Australia, Canada, and such can sometimes have people who feel that American should be a leader in socialism, and it hasn't been. This makes them uneasy sometimes. These can also feel bombarded by media out of Hollywood and such, which can sometimes be a bit worrisome.
Places that are more evolving like India and China I don't feel hatred from hardly at all. China doesn't like a lot of our culture as a government, but the people don't often support this. India is pretty cool, often embracing our culture, but having mixed feelings on free markets.
The Middle East has had problems with the West for a long long time. The focus on the U.S. is recent and linked with Israel. Yes, there is some real hatred there. Doesn't worry me much.
All in all, the real stuggle is between free markets and socialism on the one hand, and culture on the other hand. Some of the world has problems with both of these and doesn't like us for it, much of the world though, is either liking free markets or our culture so are more neutral.
The real problem is that no other country really likes free markets and has no problem with us culturally impacting them. Britain was there for a little while, but is going away from free markets recently.... ah well, can't please everyone :)

No, I do not think the world hates Americans...it is all I can do to worry about America at this time. I find myself in a position I have never been in before...I hate what America is doing in the world. I disagree with the present Administration so strongly that I am ashamed of much of what we are doing. We have allowed ourselves to be manipulated by a greedy, amoral party by lies into an abyss of war that has no satisfactory end in sight, and probably never will. Our dollar is sinking into a swamp of deficit caused by an Administration that is so short sighted, it goes for an immediate fix to everything it puts its hands on. Our President is an embarrassment and does not have the intelligence to choose qualified advisers. Yet we shall survive, we are a very determined nation blessed with tremendous resources and technology. Do I think we are hated....NO. Do I think we are respected...perhaps not nearly as much as we have been. Do I think America is a great place to live...an unqualified YES. Do I think we have friends...Yes, but I am sure they are shaking their heads as much as I am. Good luck and peace.

I think it comes from a lot of media outlets in America, and governmental agencies. We are bombarded by right & left types of organizations. Our information here is filtered. I can't figure out specifics on a lot of policies and attitudes towards Americans. I do have my leanings though.
However when GW opens his mouth on policies like he did at the White House press conference yesterday, I got the succinct feeling that he has no idea what he is doing. That makes me feel real good. LOL

I am an American and I do think that alot of countries do look down on the US. Maybe not as a country, but definately our administration. The majority of Americans look down on our administration, so its only natural that we would feel as if others are doing so as well.

If they feel so, I dont think there is any justification for that.
However we generally feel that Americans do have a superiority complex. May be because of that they will slowly earn the hatred of others!

I have been all other this world and let me tell you something.
99% of the people on this Earth couldn't point to Iraq on a map, let alone tell you anything about "foreign policy".
More people know that Pepsi-Cola and Britney Spears came from America that know jackshit about world politics.
