Because we, as humans, always critique ourselves. We only become aware of it when others critique us as well. When we receive a compliment, we try to remain modest and brush it off. When we are insulted, however, the insult tends to stick in our heads and repeat itself over and over again, causing one to doubt oneself and possibly believe that the negative is more true than the positive.

It is hard to accept comments and easy to accept insults cos you just do not believe that people are doing it.

I think that people take comments to heart. If someone took the time to make a comment, without being rude, the person may feel that they were personally attacked. Insults are generally looked upon as shallow, coming from shallow people, so it doesn't go to heart. It is only superficial.

Do you mean compliments?

That is a great question. Probably because humans are social animals and so what others think tends to worry us.

Compliments can often really mean little more than "I like you" whereas insults can often mean dangerous stuff like "I'm going to try to get back at you"

Since humans tend to be vengeful, petty, vicious, and mean, we take insults seriously for the purpose of survival.

By comments, do you mean compliments?

I think it's because we have this strange notion that by acknowledging praise, we're being conceited or big-headed; we're supposed to be humble.

I've learned to just say thank you.

As humans we tend to go for "no" or negative choices first (as when we say "no" nothing changes and we maintain our status quo). It's easier to relate to negativity.
