No way. Its banned. Foreign Direct Investment in agricuture, plantation, etc is out of question, because policy makers feel they may marginalise indian farmers (because only Indian Politicians and Landlords have the right to marginalise their fellow farmers) and shoot up land prices in speculative market and one day the entire land holding of India will be in the hands of Americans !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. But indeed this really happend - Mexico was called a Banana Republic, when strong American vested interests in Mexican Banana plantation industry felt threatned when a nationalist Mexican became its President and toyed with the idea of nationalising plantation industry and driving out American businessmen. The CIA actually threw him out of power.
But mark the words - only Direct investment is banned. You can always have surrogate investors in India - a country cousin or a thumb impression benami - to hold your investments on your behalf. And you can still spirit away the reapings through over invoicing exports and under invoicing imports. Indian Law is dumb and a hand maiden of corrupt legislators and greedy bureaucrats. It taxes the honest and the gullible but encourages fraud and wheeling dealing.

I like your idea, tell me more. I have investors like to go into agricultural as it is always a market for food. Food from agricultural plantation is still the conventional way to get food. E-mail to me at myhowc@yahoo.com.
