Because Superman, Spiderman, and Batman are all heavily marketed to little boys, as is the Hulk. You don't see Punisher costumes for kids at Wal Mart, you don't see Moon Knight breakfast cereal, and you don't see Y: The Last Man underoos (Y:The Last Man boxers would be pretty cool, though). Which is one good reason why guys like that aren't popular with the kids.

I think it's because of all the power these characters are known for having...plus they always get the hot chicks!

because they don't want to grow up like another human being who uses the term "man" they want a prefix to go with it.
