After world war 1 the Versailles treaty imposed ridiculous sanctions and reparations (payments) on Germany.
Hitler (a crazed despot) got into power by convincing the germans that they could rise again and put a stop to the payments. Having got into power, established the SS (scary german police force) and the Gestapo ( even scarier) he convinced the germans to claim back land taken from them in WW1 and go even further.
At which the allies (England, the commonwealth. France, Russia etc ) said no and declared war once he had invaded Poland. This didn't stop him invading France, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Meanwhile Japan was expanding at a rate of knots in the far east and the Americans were getting touchy about it. When Japan got too big for their boots and bombed Pearl Harbour (Hawai) the Americans declared war on them and for good measure finally offered their support to the Allies in Europe.
Very few countries weren't touched in one way or another by the war hence, a world war.
Unfortunately it was very complicated, I would suggest a "Horrible Histories" book would do a better job than me.

At the end of world war 1 The victorious allies forced Germany to sign the Treaty of Versailles. This included many points that would cause trouble later on. listed are the main
1 Germany had to accept full responsibility for starting the war and pay huge repararations (money and goods) to the victors
2 All German colonies were handed over to the League of Nations and handed out to others to run as mandates.
3 German land was taken away despite containing many German speakers including Alasce Lorraine, the Sudetenland and Danzig
4 She was forbidden from anscluss (union) with Austria.
There are more.
The country became a democracy and was rife with political turmoil and and Turmoil. The two extremes of the of polotics the left and right grew in popularity and some ponts leading to street battles.
The general feeling in Germany was one of betrayal.
Into this mess came the Nazi party led by Adolpf Hitler. Thier aims were to renounce the Treaty, gain full employemt and put Germany once again at the forefront of countries. Upon gaining power they began to do just this. Regaining the Saar coalfields, rearming and union with Austria. They then turned to the Sudentland then part of Czechoslovakaia. The British prime minister Neville Chamberlin depite never having been in a plane flew to meet Hitler in an attempt to garner peace. The upshot of which was that Germany gained the Sudentland back and shortly afterwards took the rest of the country as well. Chamberlins claim of Peace in our time now seemed flawed.
Finally realising trouble Britain gave a an assurance to Poleland that if attacked they would come to her aid. Hitler was convinced by her foreign minister Von Rippentrop that the British wanted peace and had no stomach for war and so the Gleiwitz incident was staged. German soldiers dressed in Polish uniforms occupied a radio post and shot several victims from a concentration camp. The next day the German tanks started rolling into Poland. The French and British gave Germany a shirt time to withdraw and when she did not, both declared war.
Brief but hope it helps

You do not say how old your child is - junior school covers any age from 5 to 11, and the way you describe things will alter depending on their age.
Try the two websites below. I have found that Ask has a search engine just for children. I have had a look and know my son would have understood this when he was 10 - but my daughter (aged 7) would be flummoxed!
Good luck with your homework - both now and for the next 10 years!!!!!!

Actually, the root cause was the collapse of the British Empire. India was in wholesale revolt. Latecomer countries, such as Germany and Japan were outreaching their colonialism came in the next wave. After all, if America, France, and England could expand, why couldn't Germany and Japan?
World War I had left an agreement between Germany and the Allies whereby Germany was to repay for the damage they caused. These payments took all the wealth. Inflation was rampant -- it took a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread -- causing dissatisfaction with the government of Germany and gave rise to Hitler's party.
It was with a meeting between the prime minister and Hitler that it was agreed that Germany could absorb Austria without a penalty so that England could concentrate on holding their empire.

After the first world war the treaty of Versailles was signed which declared that Germany among others should pay for the restoration of what had been destroyed. Germany couldn't afford the amount the treaty declared and the economy collapsed causing hyperinflation and the death of a lot of Germans. Hitler declared that he could save the Germans and he did by taking them to war. They had no real choice in the beginning as they would have died without fighting for their freedom.

The Treaty of Versailles solved no longer something. - The loss of all that land to different countries merely made Hitler's early aggression look justified. maximum of all, the Treaty made the Germans offended, merely waiting their risk for revenge. The League of countries did no longer keep the peace. - It replaced into vulnerable from the commencing up, and had surprising mess united statesin Manchuria and Abyssinia, and it did no longer preclude Hitler breaking the Treaty of Versailles. It did no longer gain disarmament, which led to an palms race. Appeasement inspired aggression. - Appeasement inspired conflict. It made Hitler think of no person dare stop him, which inspired him to bypass greater desirable and bigger till in the tip he went too far. Hitler replaced into an expansionist. - Many historians nevertheless think of that the 2nd international conflict replaced into Hitler's very own conflict, and that he continuously meant to combat a conflict - as a re-run of a popular international conflict he did no longer have self belief that German had lost extremely. Edit: The Japaneses attack on Pearl Harbour replaced into reasons why the USA of a joined international conflict 2. It replaced into no longer reasons why the conflict began. The conflict have been raging for over 2 years earlier the USA of a have been forced, by using the jap, into entering the conflict.

Hitler invaded Poland in a false flag operation (Hitler burned down the German Reichstag, and blamed it on Poland, and then used that to justify a war). Eventually, other European nations entered the war, forming the allied nations, and Hitler's Germany, Mussolini's Italy, and Japan formed the "axis" nations. The United States entered the war after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Ironically, the war finally ended when the United States dropped atomic bombs on Japanese cities, namely Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Well wars are never started with any reason, it is just an excuse. About WW-II, it was very simple. Hitler was a very deap lover and his GF was living in Poland. GF's father was rich and Hitler was poor. He insulted hitler and hitler decided to hit him. Now GF's father was a polically powerful person, so hitler came in power and then started fight. Actually the GAS chambers were for his GF's relatives only.
Moral of the story ... Never love whoes father is powerful politician.

Since it's Junior School homework, it's anything you want it to be so long as you can justify it properly. You don't even have to mention Hitler at all.

Hitler didn't like the restrictions put on Germany after the first world war, so he tried to do something about it. ( hope that simplifies it).
