try this:

--Some of my strongest emotions of happinees and sadness, have originated from time spent with my favorite pet, my beloved cat "Sam".--

idk, something like that...
plus a thesis statement can be more than one sentence. you can add 1 or 2 more after the 1st explaining why he has made you happy/sad, dont give too much detail, just communicate the main point.

i.e. (...i find Sam's company truly relaxing and rewarding; however at times, the trouble and responsiblity of caring for a pet can be somewhat overwhelming)....

Not bad. Now all you have to do is create and expand on Sam and the happiest & saddest memories.

Make an idea pool of your ideas. Include various events, When Sam first met you, his first words, where he first slept, how you felt about him as a baby, the formative years obediance school, his run ins with the law, being an undercover cat burgular, his cat nip addiction and recovery...

You get the idea!!!

Be more specific (e.g. refer to a specific memory) and be clever. Make your essay stand out from others -- you'll get a better grade. What is your angle? Are you going to speak more about yourself or your pet? Think about what you want to cover and write some of the essay. Maybe writing some of it will help you devise a decent thesis statement.

it's OK. The details are supposed to come out in the essay itself.

For us to help make a better thesis statement, we would need to know - more details. Sorry to be circular.
