I moved there in the late 80's, and lived there for 17 years. So yeah, I guess I would move there. :-)

When I first went up there it was summer and I couldn't figure out what all the electrical cords were doing hanging out of the front of vehicles...or why there were all those electrical sockets on posts in all of the parking lots. I soon learned though, since summer ended in late August. :-)

I have moved to Ketchikan, AK from Charleston, SC. I will be staying here for 2 years but I don't think I will make it my permanent home. Southeast AK is beautiful, but my wife misses the convenice and lower cost of goods in the lower 48. My children are young and love it here.
Everyone I have met in the lower 48 would like to come to Alaska to visit. They understand that it is a place of immense beauty and is pristine in character. In general people on the East coast and south perceive Alaskans as rugged survivalists.
In general people perceive Alaska as the "Great Unknown".

YES!!! I spent 2 summers up there and fell inlove with it the moment I stepped off the plane! I plan on moving up there when I'm done with school. I love how much stuff there is to do, even in the cold dark winters! Alaska is my home away from home

I don't think I could stand it in the winter. I hate really cold weather. I don't know how warm the summers are out there, but if they aren't very warm that would drive me nuts too! I would definitely consider visiting Alaska, just not living there.
