I had a flying squirrel. She was cute. She used to like to sleep in my hoodie pocket.

Squirrels do not make good pets. They are wild animals and hate to be caged. Orphans I have raised and released would start chewing on the bars of their cage at 5 weeks old. Squirrels can be destructive and their urine is very strong. Hard to get the smell out of anything. Squirrels also have specialized diets. Salt is dangerous to them. Too many nuts are also bad for them. They eat a wide variety of food in the wild, including grasshoppers. It's not unusual for "pet" squirrels to suddenly bite. Squirrels carry diseases and parasites that humans can get. Do yourself and the squirrels a favor. Leave them in the wild and enjoy them that way. Put up a feeder where you can watch them. It's a lot more fun that way.

I had roommates with a pet squirrel. It was given to them by someone who kept it in a tiny cage. We felt sorry for it and let it out occasionally. It was tame and pretty cool. It grew harder and harder to get it back in the cage. It got out the front door once and we thought it was gone, but it came back. One of the funny things that it did was, it would climb up behind people who were sitting on the couch on pounce on the back of their heads when they weren't expecting it; it would really startle the hell out of you, and the squirrel seemed to really enjoy it. It was kind of obnoxious in other ways too. One of my roommates lost it and went after the squirrel with an ax. It was scurrying around on a piece of wicker furniture. The squirrel escaped unscathed, but the wicker shelving was about half destroyed. She started letting the little beast outdoors whenever it wanted to go. It stayed out longer and longer. For a while, it occasionally came back to visit. Eventually it never returned. I think a squirrel could make a pretty cool pet if the two of you could come to an understanding. You could probably train one if you went about it the right way. They would probably do anything for a peanut.

Yes, but suggest that you let it be wild due to squirrels nip by nature and can when grown be very temper mental with other people. If by chance you do get one don't feed them egg corns those can make them wild temper and some egg corns can also be harmful to them as well. I just had almost the same question due to I found and orphan but now is a happy wild male on the lose for a lady! :o)

No. Squirrels are wild animals, and are therefore equals, and not pets. You can make friends with one, and talk to it, and get feedback, but you can't 'own' one and make it mind like a dog or get it to love you like a cat.
Whatever you do, don't feed them, please; this is disastrous for wild animals.
