I'm not sure how to go about doing it. I took a class back in Jr. High (7 years ago) but I forgot most of it. Is there a good website that can give me some step by step help. I love sites with pictures.

Try a Google search for "How to Sew." I did, and got the following:

http://sewing.about.com/
http://sewing.about.com/library/weekly/aahallow04a.htm

The first link contains some links to instructional information. The second link above is specifically about Halloween costumes.

Additionally, if you go to WalMart or JoAnn's and buy a pattern, (try Simplicity patterns) it will have pictures and diagrams to guide you.

You might want to go to a local sewing shop and look up their costume patterns. If you want to make a costume for yourself or for a friend which actually looks really good, you definitely need a pattern unless it's a pretty simple costume. Then you just have to buy enough fabric (the pattern should tell you how much it requires), follow the instructions for pinning the pattern to the fabric, cut it out, then start sewing the bits together. Most patterns are designed to be simple so you should have no problems with that.

If you're making costumes for kids, though, you can probably do it without a pattern (although patterns really make things easier and definitely take less time), just match the sizes to their clothes. It's best to be simple with kids costumes and make them loose/a bit baggy since kids do all sorts of energetic things.

I don't know the name of any sites but if you type in "how to make a ........" into your search engine, I'm sure you will come up with some sites yourself.

I recently did a search for making a tutu & I found a site that helped me make one in 20 minutes & I have never sewed anything in my life. It was easy instructions that were written well.

Good luck :-)
